Each year, since 2017, we have organised and held auctions of art from over 50 local artists, from Margate and the surrounding Kent community. Our school is sited in a community which hosts a number of artist collectives, shared studio spaces and galleries.
The auctions are hosted by Keith Brymer-Jones, renowned potter (‘Great Pottery Throw Down’ on television) and patron of arts education through his work with the NSEAD (National society of Education in Arts and Design).
In 2019, the auction was hosted by the Walpole Bay Hotel, just 5 minutes from our school, and owned by Jane, whose grandchildren attend the school. The auctions raise between £3200 and £4300 each year for the arts at our school.
In 2021, the Auction was held at the TURNER CONTEMPORARY GALLERY! it was such an exciting event, and we raised £6159!! This will help to fund printmaking materials for our arts week for the whole school, as well as a shed for our kiln, and some beautiful trestle benches in our art studio – so that it will be accessible to all, and to larger class groups!
